New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh on Monday announced a week-long residential administrative training programme for science administrators, an initiative of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).
The programme, designed on the lines of civil services training, will be integrated into the iGOT Karmayogi portal under Mission Karmayogi to promote a “whole-of-government” approach in scientific management, officials said.
Dr. Singh, who met INSA president Prof. Ashutosh Sharma here, said the initiative will build capacity among PhD scholars, assistant professors and mid-career faculty to contribute to world-class research, impactful teaching and leadership in India's knowledge economy.
The module will include training in scientific communication, grant writing, lab safety, innovation, stress management, networking, career opportunities, and administrative responsibilities. For mid-career faculty taking on senior roles, INSA in collaboration with the American Chemical Society will hold leadership conferences on strategic decision-making and change management.
The minister stressed that the effort goes beyond producing science administrators and aims at developing science leaders who can drive India's S&T ecosystem. He underlined the shift from “rule-based” to “role-based” capacity building and called for inclusion of communication skills and industry perspectives.
Highlighting the “democratisation of science” in the past decade, Singh noted increased participation of youth, women and researchers from remote areas in scientific research. He also directed inclusion of Environment, Sustainability and Governance (ESG) modules to align with global priorities.
