Sivaganga: Students of a government higher secondary school in Alagamanagari near Sivaganga are reportedly walking up to 5 kilometres due to inadequate bus connectivity to their villages.
The school, which caters to over 400 students from villages including Tirumalai, Sethunagar, Kallaradinipatti, Usilampatti, and Kadamuthanpatti, recently recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in the state public examination.
However, despite academic success, students from Tirumalai, Sethunagar, and Kallaradinipatti face challenges in reaching school on time, as they are forced to walk or cycle daily due to the lack of transportation facilities.
According to locals, the situation has also contributed to a decline in student enrollment in the school. Presently, a government bus operates between Sivaganga and Kallaradinipatti at 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
Residents have urged the district administration to extend this route to Alagamanagari to benefit school-going children.
Parents and school authorities are appealing for urgent intervention to improve access and ensure continued education for rural students.
