Hyderabad: NALSAR University of Law and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) jointly organised a national conference, 'Corp-Con 2025,' here on Friday, focusing on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
The conference, held at the SAARC Law Hall, was chaired by NALSAR Vice-Chancellor Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao and inaugurated by Shri Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General and CEO of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs.
In his address, Singh underlined the need to integrate ESG into corporate law, elaborated on the stakeholder theory, and highlighted the evolving mediation role of IBC with reference to forthcoming IBC 3.0 amendments. He stressed that building trust and fostering collective responsibility were vital for strengthening governance.
Prof. Rao, in his inaugural remarks, drew attention to environmental sustainability, self-reliance, and the relevance of landmark judgments such as M.C. Mehta (1985) and T.N. Godavarman. He also announced that selected papers from the conference would be published to advance ESG and IBL studies.
Other speakers included CS P. S. Rao, who shared insights from his experience in mergers, insolvency and restructuring, and Shri Inderjit Shaw, who emphasised embedding ESG into daily life and corporate curricula while citing practices of firms such as Tata, Infosys and Mahindra. CS Ranjit Pandey stressed that ESG was a necessity, not an option, and distinguished it from CSR, highlighting the supporting institutional and legal frameworks.
The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs and a vote of thanks by Prof. P. Sreenivasa Subbha Rao.
