Thiruvananthapuram: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday called for strengthening research and innovation to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, during his visit to the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) here.

Radhakrishnan inaugurated an exhibition of medical devices developed by the institute's faculty and start-ups at the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies. He praised SCTIMST's globally recognised achievements in indigenous medical device development, including the low-cost Chitra heart valve, blood bag, and diagnostic kits for tuberculosis.

Commending the institute's strong record in patent filings, design registrations and technology transfers, the Vice-President described SCTIMST as a model institution blending medical science and technology for national advancement. He urged scientists to extend research outreach to underserved populations to ensure equitable healthcare benefits.

Radhakrishnan also visited the newly inaugurated nine-storey hospital block established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) and lauded its modern facilities, including advanced operation theatres, cath labs, CT scanners, and ICU expansions.

Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi, State Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal and SCTIMST Director Dr. Sanjay Behari were present.
