Coimbatore: The Public Works Department (PWD) has announced an e-tender for the construction of a massive six-storey artist library and science center in Coimbatore, with an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore.

The tender submission deadline is 3:00 PM on October 16, 2024, and will be opened an hour later at 4:00 PM.

The project is part of a larger initiative announced by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to honor the centenary of the late former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

The library and science center will be located near Semmozhi Park, behind the Tamil Nadu Hotel, and have already received the necessary administrative approvals from the Tamil Nadu government.

Of the Rs 300 crore allocated for the project, Rs 245 crore is earmarked for construction, Rs 50 lakh for books and e-books, and Rs 5 lakh for computers and other study and IT facilities. The structure, which will cover an expansive area of 1.98 lakh square feet, is expected to become a new landmark for the city.

PWD officials emphasized that the library is designed to serve the educational and research needs of students and the community. The inclusion of a dedicated science center will further support research activities.

Once completed, the facility is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing educational resources in Coimbatore.
