In a significant boost for Indian aspirants, the University of Cambridge has announced that it will accept CBSE Class 12 scores for admission to select undergraduate programmes. The decision was revealed during a recent visit by a senior Cambridge delegation to India, underlining the university's growing academic engagement with the country.
Expanding Access to World-Class Education
By recognising CBSE Class 12 results, Cambridge has broadened its undergraduate entry routes for Indian students. The move reflects confidence in the academic standards of India's school education system and simplifies the admission process for deserving candidates.
The university is also exploring philanthropic support to fund scholarships for meritorious Indian students, strengthening efforts to make elite education more accessible.
Who Stands to Benefit
The policy will primarily benefit CBSE Class 12 students aspiring to study at Cambridge. With a more transparent and direct application pathway, talented students can now compete on a wider global platform and contribute to international academic exchange.
Launch of Cambridge-India Centre for Advanced Studies
The announcement coincided with the inauguration of the Cambridge-India Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS), a major initiative to deepen academic collaboration. The centre will comprise:
Centre for Advanced Research and Synthesis - to promote high-impact research
Knowledge-Policy-Innovation Hub - to support evidence-based policymaking
Learning Hub - to facilitate scholarships and student mobility
CAS aims to strengthen Cambridge's footprint in India and enhance research-driven social impact.
Strengthening Research and Scholarship Support
To promote collaboration and student assistance, Cambridge has also set up the Cambridge India Research Foundation, a Section 8 company. The foundation will mobilise funds for scholarships and support joint research projects with Indian institutions.
Application Process and Requirements
CBSE students interested in applying should regularly check Cambridge's official admissions portal for details on eligibility, minimum scores, and deadlines. While Class 12 results will be considered, certain courses may require additional assessments or qualifications.
Information on scholarships linked to CAS and the Research Foundation will be released alongside admission updates.
Reinforcing a Historic Bond with India
Established in 1209, the University of Cambridge has a long-standing association with India and has nurtured several eminent scholars and leaders. This initiative strengthens that legacy, reaffirming Cambridge's commitment to developing Indian talent and promoting global academic cooperation.
